No cash: now Rome’s registry office only accepts cashless payments

No more cash. The Municipality of Rome has announced that from 1 January 2019 it will only be possible to pay with credit, debit or prepaid card for the Registry Office’s services; this will allow, among other things, to speed up the procedures.

New year, fresh start. 31 December 2018 was the last day in which it was possible to pay both with credit card and cash. Such date will put an end to the endless lines inside municipal registry offices, real-life Dantesque circles for many citizens. The new method of payment was introduced to ensure greater efficiency, transparency of accounts and tighter control of the procedures explains the municipality.

The elimination of cash payments and the introduction of cashless ones, will enable a better control of the revenues. One of the reasons that led to this decision was definitely the saving of public resources made possible by switching to this new model. Securing and accounting for large amounts of cash money resulted in an overload of costs to be borne by the treasury.

This change of habits won’t go unnoticed, Rome’s new mission is to make people understand that digital payments will lead to significant time savings, and will help the city get rid of unnecessary costs.
